How to start!

I was just thinking that it would be nice to write a little bit about where you need to start if you want to do this caking decorating thing the right way. Beside figuring out what you want to make, you need to look what you need to make the cake that is in your head and wants to come out. Think about the obvious things like ingredients, fondant/marzipan and or buttercream. Don't just stop there, think about what do i need to get my fondant or marzipan on the cake. How do i get the cake to look smooth, what do need if i want to make a figurine or flower. Don't hestitate to do some research of your own. My best friends are called: google, pinterest and youtube. If your not sure how to start, don't be afraid to ask your local cake artist or someone on the internet. If you aks nicely most artists are willing to help you get started. And remember, write the following down....everbody had to start somewhere, everybody failed once or twice, just don't give up, this thing is going to be fun, this i promise you!

What are the assentials you need to have, to make a good start, according to me;

A good rolling pin.

two smoothers (these are tools to smooth out your fondant or marzipan once it is on the cake)

Two spatula's

A couple of good small brushes, to pain or to add glue to your figurines or cake.

Toothpicks (we cake artists eat those things for breakfast, and are very important in cake decorating. You can use the tooth picks for everything from leveling you cake while filling it, to using for you figurines and a lot inbetween)

a sharp hobby knife.

a cake saw (you need one of those for cutting you cake to fill the thing).

I did not have all those tools when i started cake decorating. Believe that in those three years i made up for the stuff i did not have. Cake stuff everywhere in my house.
