The 1 million dollar question!

I have been asked this question about 1 billion times: how do you come up with ideas for a cake design. Well...you are going to call me crazy, i have this little voice in my head. No seriously, i see an image of an idea that i have, for instant a 4th of july cake. I go an look an the internet (remember what i said, pinterest, google and youtube are my closest friends) to find different designs by other artist. At one given moment i find a photo that get stuck in my head, and my own ideas are forming a cake (in my head). When the idea is there, i have this voice that says how it is supposed to be designed. Often i do not write these things down (only when the idea comes in the middle of night, and i have lot of "those" nights" ), they are just in my head. Do you still follow me?

I will show you a photo that got stuck in my head. Now the thinking/ designing process starts. What i see happening to this cake, a lot less flag, but enough to present the USA, a statue of liberty on side of a 2 or 3 tier cake. Infront of the flag comes a soldier saluting to the flag...i have no idea how my mind gets this together in one picture, it just does.
