I just choose the most difficult product to write a review on. Why? Fondant is very personal, fondant it self is a unique product. There are a lot of artists who make their own fondant ( a very good recipe is that one from Artisan Company : http://artisancakecompany.com/recipe/the-best-marshmallow-fondant-recipe-ever/. Her fondant is genius, pure genius. It is soft, smooth and very easy to make.
I do not make my own fondant, i buy it.
I have tried a couple of brands of fondant Like satin ice , funcakes and a couple more.
Right now i am back at Funcakes fondant, because it is less "soft" then other brands. For me (and that is a very personal choice) works a fondant that needs a bit of though love then a fondant that is so soft that it hardly requires any rolling. Why? i found that when my fondant is to soft, i find it very difficutl to get right on the cake. Funcakes is "hard" enough to adjust when needed.
What i don't like about the funcakes fondant, is that is pricey, the 5kg packages have changed and is now one solid block of fondant instead of 5 bars of 1kg fondant. That makes it far more difficult cut the right amount of fondant, you need for the cake you are making.
The Satin ice comes a very handy container that you can close, without the fondant drying out. Go to: http://www.satinice.com to check their fondant out.
Not so long ago i worked with a spanish brand (as far i know not for sale in Holland yet) and i was happily suprised by the product. It was soft, smelled and stasted like citrus. It felt like very soft fabric. As soon as i know what the exact name of the brand is and where it is for sale, will let you guys know.
When you are just starting decorating, ask other artist (again if you asked it nicely, most of them will help you) what they use and why.
