There turntables in a lot of shapes and colors. Today i stick with the Wilton Trim 'n Ultra Turntable and the PME Tilting turntable. You are probably not suprised when i say that i have both turntables (and i am not ashamed of that haha).
This is going to sound horrible but i like them both. Let me start with saying that i am (when it comes to tools and equiptment) both a wilton and PME girl. Both are big names in the cake world. What do it think of both turntables, well let me tell you.
The wilton turntable; i started with this turntable and it is a absolute must have for every cake (baker) decorator. Why? a turntable helps you to get you fondant, marzipan or your buttercream better on your cake, because of the simple fact that you are able to turn your cake around without moving, and so damaging you fondant, marzipan or buttercream. The Wilton one is for sale at very reasonable price and can be used for cake up to 30 cm. The hight of the turnable is about 7cm, for tall people like me, it would have nice if the hight was adjustable. The turntable is very easy to clean with a wet cloth. I have mine Witon for the almost 4 years now, and it still works perfectly fine (and i use it alot).
The PME Turntable: i bought this turntable because i wanted one that could tilt my cakes for a better acces while decorating. This Turntable does just that. The very first time i used it, was scared to death that my cake would fall, but because of the structure of the piece where the cake stands on, that does not happen, at least if you are careful. The hight of this turntable is 14 cm, still pretty low, but a bit easier the work with for tall people. This turntable is more difficult to clean, due to the structure of the table and can only handle cakes up to 23 cm.
This makes it look like i am prefering the wilton turntable over the PME. That is not the case. The wilton is very good turntable to start with, and for the more simple cakes. Where the PME turntable is a fantastic turntable for the more experienced cake decorator and for the more advanced projects, like handpiping your cake or adding complicated decorations to you cake. And the PME one is more ergonomic (better for your back and neck).
